The Department of Culture and Science of the Municipality of Larissa, in collaboration with the Mount Athos Center, presents an exhibition of photographs by Dimitris Louzikiotis entitled ‘Athos: Gazing from Without’, which is due to open on Tuesday 12 February 2019 in the exhibition space on the ground floor of the ‘Mill of Pappas’ in Larissa.

The exhibition will present a selection of photographs of doors and windows in Karyes and other parts of the Athonite state, a project that Dimitris Louzikiotis has been engaged in since the beginning of 2000, constantly gathering material on his numerous trips to the Athonite state. The rich archive of photographic material that he has assembled has formed the basis of a special album bearing the Greek title of this exhibition (Athos Thyrauloi Stomen). Apart from the photographs, this album also includes an original poetic commentary (by the poets Agathi Dimitrouka, Demi Kyriakou and Constantinos Palian), an introduction by Phaidon Chatziantoniou and notes on the photographs by the archaeologist Dr. Nikos Mertzimekis.
The exhibition will be officially opened at 7 p.m. on Tuesday 12 February 2019 in the presence of the photographer Dimitris Louzikiotis and the Director of the Mount Athos Center, Anastasios Douros. The exhibition will be open on weekdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and will last until 26 February 2019.
Copies of the exhibition catalogue will be available in Greek, English and Russian.
