‘Mount Athos: In the Image of the Photographic Gaze’

On Thursday 5 September 2019 the Mount Athos Centre’s photography exhibition entitled ‘Mount Athos: In the Image of the Photographic Gaze’ was officially opened at the University of Craiova in Romania.
The exhibition has been organised by the Mount Athos Centre in collaboration with the Municipality of Craiova and the Central Public Library of Craiova, and forms part of the official programme of events of the 6th International Meeting of Orthodox Youth (ITO) which is being held in the city from Thursday 5 until Sunday 8 September 2019. The events were inaugurated by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, and the inauguration was also attended by His Eminence Irineu, Archbishop of Craiova and Metropolitan of Oltenia, the Deputy Mayor of Craiova Mr. Ady Kosman, the Deputy Regional Prefect Mr. Adrian Shovaila, the Director of the Central Library Mr. Lucian Dindirica, and a large number of young people. The Mount Athos Centre was represented by its director, Mr. Anastasios Douros, accompanied by Prof. Apostolos Patelakis, professor of Romanian language. Mr. Douros had a brief meeting with His Beatitude Daniel, during which he had the opportunity to inform him about the activities of the Mount Athos Centre and to present him with copies of the Centre’s publications.
The exhibition presents the work carried out on Mount Athos by four photographers: Ali Borovali from Turkey, Zbigniew Kosc from Poland, Zoran Purger from Serbia and Valery Bliznyuk from Russia. It was first presented in the exhibition space of the Mount Athos Centre in 2016 and then travelled to Istanbul, Nicosia, Belgrade and Veliko Tarnovo, while in Greece it was presented in the towns of Katerini and Kastoria.
