The exhibition of historic photographs from Princeton continues on its journey…


The Mount Athos Center in Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the Department of Art and Archaeology of Princeton University in the USA and the Byzantine Cultural Institute in Bucharest, presents the exhibition entitled ‘Mount Athos and Meteora 1929 – Princeton’s Hidden Treasure’ in Bucharest. The exhibition represents a special cultural event as it displays a rare archive of photographs and film of great historic value.

The exhibition is scheduled to be officially opened at 19:00 on Wednesday 24 June 2026 at the Galeria Fundației Bizantine (Bibescu Voda 20, Bucharest). The exhibition will run until 1 October 2026.
 

The exhibition presents a unique photographic record of a mission to Mount Athos and Meteora in 1929, bringing to light images and testimonies to another era that capture the spiritual life, architectural heritage and natural landscapes of two of the most important places in the Orthodox world.
The presentation of the exhibition in the Romanian capital represents an important opportunity to engage in cultural dialogue and to strengthen the centuries-old bonds between Greece and Romania by highlighting their common spiritual and cultural heritage.
The exhibition was first staged in the exhibition space of the Mount Athos Center in 2023, and later that year travelled to Kalambaka. In September 2024 it was presented at the Maliotis Cultural Center in Boston, USA, and then later that year in Lefkas. In 2025 it travelled to various cities in Romania (Braşov, Iaşi and Sibiu) and in February 2026 part of the exhibition was opened to the public in the city of St. Augustine in Florida, USA.
