The opening ceremony in Bucharest of the exhibition entitled ‘Mount Athos and Meteora 1929 – Princeton’s Hidden Treasure’ was held with great success on Wednesday 24 June 2026, marking yet another important milestone in the exhibition’s international journey.
The exhibition has been organised by the Mount Athos Center in Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Department of Art and Archaeology of Princeton University in the USA and the ‘Byzantina’ Cultural Institute, and is being held at the Galeria Fundației Bizantine, where it will remain open to the public until 1 October 2026.

The opening ceremony was attended by Protopresbyter Constantin Coman, President of the ‘Byzantina’ Cultural Institute, Mr. Andreas Vythoulkas, Vice-President, and Mr. Anastasios Douros, Director of the Mount Athos Center, who curated the exhibition.

As a reminder, the exhibition presents a unique archive of photographs and film recording a mission to Mount Athos and Meteora in 1929, highlighting valuable photographic evidence of the spiritual life, monastic tradition, architectural heritage and natural landscapes of two of the most important places in the Orthodox world.
The presentation of the exhibition in the Romanian capital affirms the timeless value of the cultural collaboration between Greece and Romania, helping to highlight their common spiritual and cultural heritage and to strengthen the historic ties between the two countries.
The enthusiastic public response and presence at the opening ceremony of representatives of Romania’s academic, ecclesiastical and cultural life confirms the strong interest that exists in a precious historical treasure that continues to travel around the world, promoting the history, art and spiritual traditions of Mount Athos and Meteora.

The exhibition began its journey in 2023, in the exhibition space of the Mount Athos Center in Thessaloniki, and later that year was presented in Kalambaka. In 2024 it was held at the Maliotis Cultural Center in Boston, USA, and in 2025 travelled to various important cities in Romania, such as Braşov, Iaşi and Sibiu. In February 2026 part of the exhibition was presented in the city of St. Augustine in Florida, USA, before arriving at the latest stop in its journey, Bucharest.
