A BOOK COLLECTION BY STAVROS TSIGAS, FORMER SECRETARY OF THE CIVIL ADMINISTRATION FOR MOUNT ATHOS DURING THE 1970s, DONATED TO THE MOUNT ATHOS CENTER'S LIBRARY 

The collection consisting of books in Greek and Russian, photographs, engravings, postcards, etc. was donated to the Mount Athos Center by Ms. Fani Tsigas, wife of the late Stavros Tsigas, Diplomat and former secretary of the Mount Athos Civil Administration during the 1970's.

Old Russian publications printed between 1830 and 1915, a rather significant period of Russian presence and foreign policy for the Mount Athos, consisting of 113 books, 512 photographs and 158 postcards, are now part of the Mount Athos Center's Library on a special created section now available under the title "a Donation of Stavros Tsigas".

This new addition to the library holds interest for scientists, researchers, and especially architects and historians, as it contains bibliography pertaining to the Russian Monasteries, Sketes and Cells on Mount Athos, publications also accompanied with engravings, rare prints and photos of these monastic structures which are no longer existing since they were abandoned, damaged and finally destroyed over the passage of time.

The archives will be available to specialists in the near future, while the translation and republication of some of them is being considered as they have valuable information and historical data, especially the books that pertain to architectural structures, featuring sketches, engravings and pictures of monasteries and their dependencies that are no longer standing.
